[Knitting history]

Iris/Rush grass, commonly known as Mat Grass, title rushes. China is one of first countries to use and cultivate iris in the world. The long history is verified by archaeological unnearthed fragments of rushed from Zhejiang Yuyao Hemudu site (about 7000 years ago).

As early as 2700 years ago, the Spring and Autumn Period, Yinzhou ancestors have mastered the rush grass cultivation and preparation skill. From Beginning of Tang Dynasty (AD 713), the Ningbo mats have been exported to Korea and other countries. The decade from 1864 to 1874, the early Southern Song Dynasty, Yinzhou total production of mats is over 70 million and was sold all through the country, and exported to Japan, southeast Asia and Europe. In 1954, Premier Zhou Enlai designate the "white linen tendons mats" made in Gulin Town as the ceremony, and presented to heads of Geneva of the UN General Assembly. Ningbo mats became famous all over the world from then on.

Yinzhou District (formerly Yin County) was named byr the Ministry of Agriculture as Rush Township in 1995. In 2002, Yinzhou rush obtained the Certificate of Origin through the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. In 2005, Yinzhou was named by China Light Industry Federation as the "straw base. In 2007, the Quality Supervision Bureau of Ningbo City appointed Yinzhou rush as the regional brand cultivation demonstration industry. Yellow Gulin mats weaving techniques was named as Zhejiang Province Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009 by People's Government of Zhejiang Province.

[Product varieties]

At present, rush products to export mainly fall into Tatami, Jacquard seats, dressing seat, eyes mats; rush products for inland market fall into 10 series and over 100 varieties, including straw, bamboo, rattan products, grass, bamboo mixed products and leather products, etc.

[Production process]

At the beginning of foundation of New China, Yinzhou farmers follow the thousands of years of traditional hand weaving of family workshops and made all kinds of straw products. From the 1970s and early 1990s, new plant technology and advanced equipment have been introduced from Japan, rush mat production processes and product quality has been improved greatly.

In recent years, Yinzhou district corporates cost down through technological innovation and new product development, which not only improved the mat quality but also explore broader prospects of rush products.

[The five functions]

Adsorption function: According to the analysis of the rush mat slices, half-open like the grass, porosity, water absorption is 2-3 times that of ordinary plants, and has good dehumidification, absorbent effect.
Antibacterial function: Rush grass can destroy pathogens moist environment needed for growth, and thus achieve the effect of sterilization deodorant.
